HORN ISLAND DURING AN AIR RAID

Wirraway
One source indicates that fourteen Japanese "Nell" Heavy Bombers dropped 40 bombs on Horn Island Airstrip on 30 April 1942.
RAAF Wirraway A20-472 was completely destroyed and A20-471 was damaged. One soldier was killed.
There is an entry in the Operations Record Book for 32 Squadron RAAF which indicates that eight Type 96 bombers and three Zeros were involved:-

RAAF Wirraway A20-472 was completely destroyed and A20-471 and another Wirraway were damaged. One soldier was killed.
