The following is an excerpt from page 101 of the Third Edition (2000) of the book "Strike and Return",

Flight Sergeant P.A. Teece had a frightening experience on his return to base when in the circuit at a height of 1,000 feet his two starboard engines cut. The aircraft dived out of control and crashed in a field at Whitegate Hill. Fortunately all members of the crew were able to scramble out unhurt from the burning bomber except the bomb aimer, Sergeant J. Allison, who suffered a broken leg.

Hello,

I'm currently studying Civil Engineering @ the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, U.K. I'm from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, and I am e-mailing concering my grandfather. I am quite certain that he was a member of the famous 460 Squadron, he flew Lancaster's with Australians out of Binbrook.

During the war he crashed whilst circling the airport, waiting to refuel. he ploughed through 3 or 4 fields, and as he was sat in the forwards, bottom bubble, he suffered heavy injuries, from which he has never truly recovered. He is a Scot, probably from the Dundee area before the war, now living in Blackburn, Lancashire. He was a bank manager for a time after the war, but he never saw his crew mates again, after he arrived at hospital (he thinks that they survived the crash that got him). I believe that he was a navigator/bomb aimer, i'm not sure which, are they the same thing??? Anyway, any information on him would be more than welcome as he hasn't got much time left, his memory never fully recovered and both my dad and myself want to know more. Does anyone remember a Scotsman who crashed close to home with the rest of his crew and never saw them again???
